New MacBook Air Models
Announced earlier this year, the new MacBook Air is one of Apple's lightest and most svelte laptops. With a 2-in-1 capability — which allows the laptop to transform into a tablet — an all-new Smart Keyboard and Magic Mouse, the new MacBook Air is set to steal sales from its ultra-slim predecessors. While previous generations of the MacBook Air packed a lot into a small space, the new ones are packed even more. Not only does the new version boast incredible build quality, but it also comes with a larger, 12-inch display than before. This means even more content can be viewed on screen at once, and it also makes for a better experience when using multiple monitors. The new MacBook Air will be available to order early next year.
New MacBook Pro Models
The new MacBook Pro is the natural evolution of Apple's professional laptop line. With the added oomph of a more powerful processor, improved graphics and a wider array of ports, the new MacBook Pro will be capable of doing pretty much everything a pro user could need. This, in turn, will make it even more appealing to existing Apple users and potential converts to the brand. The new MacBook Pro will be available to order from mid-2019.
As for the new features, there are plenty to look out for. First up is the Touch ID button, which now occupies the same position as the Apple logo on the side of the device. This change makes it easier to use biometric security for added security when logging into your devices or apps. The second new feature is the Smart Connector, which transfers data at up to gigabit speeds. It's a perfect companion for the faster, fiber-optic Internet connections that are available today. Thirdly, there's the new security camera, which has a wider lens than the previous generation to offer closer-up shots without sacrificing image quality. Last but not least, the inclusion of an SD card reader is a great addition to have on a travel laptop, as it makes it much easier to load and store large amounts of data while on the go. The new MacBook Pro will be available to order from mid-2019.
Nadiad Pro Models
While Apple has had a lot of success with its iPhone and MacBook lines, its iPad is another story. As the dominant player in the tablet market, Apple gets a lot of flack for not releasing innovative products or keeping up with consumer demand. To respond to this, the company made a couple of small tweaks to its popular tablet and stuck a bigger-than-life-sized display on the outside. The result is the new iPad Pro, which arrives with a bigger display, improved cameras, a faster processor and more power. Essentially, it's an upgraded version of Apple's most popular tablet. If you're an iPad user then this is the one you've been waiting for. The new iPad Pro will go on sale in the first quarter of next year.
As for the new features, there's not a whole lot to say. Apple focused on making the device faster and more power-efficient, while also keeping up with the big, vibrant display its customers have come to expect. In addition, the screen is tilted to be more natural when used with the device in landscape mode — especially when watching video content. This makes it ideal for use on an airplane, when you aren't plugged in and have limited desk space. When it comes to the iPad, space is at a premium, and so is the ability to work. With the smaller bezels, the display now occupies more than 76% of the front surface area. This makes content much more accessible and easy on the eye. In line with these changes, the new iPad Pro weighs in at a stitch less than the previous version.
Surface Book Models
Surface Books — or the Surface Laptop, to give it its full name — are, essentially, hybrid laptops. Combining the portability of a tablet with the productivity of a laptop, these devices are the perfect way to get work done on the go. Essentially, the Surface Book is what happens when someone decides 'laptop' isn't actually a bad word. Available in both 13.3-inch and 15-inch variants, these are the successors to Microsoft's Surface Laptop, which was first released in 2018. While the original Surface Laptop was more of a proof-of-concept device, the Surface Book takes the concept and runs with it. Most notably, the hybrid devices boast Intel's latest 6th Generation CPUs with fast storage options. As a result, they're super fast. The display is also a highlight, with a bright, wide-viewing angle IPS screen. To put it simply, these are the perfect devices for someone who wants to get work done but doesn't want to spend a fortune. The Surface Book goes on sale in the first quarter of next year.
As for the new features, there are a few things worth mentioning. First up, the 15-inch version of the Surface Book now comes with an extra 120GB of SSD storage. This increase in storage is nice, but it might not be enough for some users. Second, the devices have gotten lighter. In fact, the 15-inch version has dropped nearly 10% in weight compared to the previous version. Third, the entire laptop is built with USB-C and supports Quick Charge. This makes it a perfect match for today's fast-charging smartphones and USB-C / Lightning cables. Last but not least, all of Surface Books come with a Type-C USB port for charging and connecting to devices. This change allows the entire line to be compatible with the latest generation of USB. As for price, both versions of the Surface Book start at US$999. This puts them in the same price range as Apple's MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. If you're in the market for a new laptop, then these are great options to consider.
Newest MacBook Models
While we've been talking about the new MacBook Air, it's actually the newest MacBook that stole the show. After Apple switched to a 6th Generation Intel Core processor and halved the bezels to create a slimmer profile, the MacBook took the design community by storm. Much like its larger brethren, the new MacBook has a 2-in-1 capability — which allows the laptop to change into a tablet — a brand-new keyboard with butterfly-style keys and a 12.9-inch display that's perfect for multi-tasking.
As for the new features, there's not a whole lot to say. As we've established, the new MacBook is focused on being the thinnest and lightest in its class. To this end, you won't find any of the common ports or inputs on the laptop. Instead, you get either two USB-C ports, an Ethernet jack or a SIM card tray. You also get a Smart Card reader, which is great for people who do a lot of travel or have a lot of frequent flier miles. For storage, you'll get either 128GB or 256GB of flash storage. For even more security, you can choose to run the MacBook in Safe Mode, which prevents your personal information from being accessed by any applications or devices. Finally, if you're looking for a tablet compatible with the Mac, then check out the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. With slimmer bezels, a bigger display and a CPU that's more than adequate for handling most tasks, the iPad Pro might just be the ticket you're looking for.
As for price, the new MacBook retails for US$1,299 and up. If you want to spend under $1,500 then you can opt for the base model with 128GB of storage – but you'll then be missing out on the best part of the MacBook experience. If, however, you want to spend over $1,500 then you can opt for the higher-end model with 256GB of storage. In either case, these are great values for such a thin and light laptop. Even better is that the entire MacBook lineup supports USB-C and comes with a standard 3-year warranty.
